After a long wait, Harley Davidson Sportster Nightster is finally here.
The Harley Davidson Sportster was launched in 1957 and, thanks a minimal style and a unique design, rapidly grow to become one of the most famous and longevous motorcycles of modern history.
With this new Nightster, the Milwaukee based company wants to propel itself in the future but, at the same time, keep the looks and proportions of the Harley Davidson Sportster models we love: this 2022 Nightster is lower and longer but has a lot of design elements that make bikers fall in love over the past couple of decades.
Jochen Zeitz, Harley Davidson President and CEO, describes this model as: “a canvas for creativity and personalizations, offering the ultimate platform for customization and expression for new and existing riders.”
Harley Davidson Sportster Nightster: features
The main introduction is the Revolution Max 975T powertrain that Harley Davidson introduced in 2019 on the Streetfighter Bronx concept bike. It is a 975cc liquid-cooled, 60° V-Twin capable of producing 90hp at 7500rpm and 70 lb-ft (95nm) of torque at 5000rpm. Of the hydraulic valves, the intake ones rock Variable Valve Timing Phasing, and the clutch sports anti-spinning.
The engine is the central, structural component: a solution that significantly reduces motorcycle weight and results in a very stiff chassis. The rear suspension features dual outboard emulsion-technology shock absorbers with coil springs and a threaded collar for pre-load adjustment, and the front suspension is a Showa Dual bending valve fork. The seat or this new Harley Davidson Sportster is only 700mm tall which is something that will make everyone happy.
Sportster models have always had a signature element of design that made them easily recognizable: the “peanut” tank. This element is recognizable in this new Nightster as well but, there’s a catch: it is not a fuel tank, it is a cover for the air filter. The actual 3.1-gallon lightweight plastic fuel tank is located under the seat to move the fuel weight lower in the chassis and have a lower center of gravity for improved handling.
The tech package of this all-new Harley Davidson Sportster is simply incredible. The new Nightster is equipped with Harley Davidson Rider Safety Enhancements which include: ABS, traction control (TCT), and Drag Torque Control System (DSCS) which adjust engine torque delivery and reduce excessive rear-wheel slip under powertrain-induced deceleration, which typically occurs when the rider makes an abrupt down-shift gear change or quickly reduces the throttle while on wet or slippery road surfaces.

- Road Mode is intended for daily use and delivers balanced performance. This mode offers less-aggressive throttle response and less mid-range engine power than Sport Mode, with a higher level of ABS and TCS intervention.
- Sport Mode delivers the full performance potential of the motorcycle in a direct and precise manner, with full power and the quickest throttle response. TCS is set to its lowest level of intervention, and engine braking is increased.
- Rain Mode is designed to give the rider greater confidence when riding in the rain or when traction is otherwise limited. Throttle response and power output are programmed to significantly restrain the rate of acceleration, engine braking is limited, and the highest levels of ABS and TCS intervention are selected.
