Bmw Motorcycle: a brief dive into its history and new models

BMW is one of the most iconic and famous motorcycle bands in motorcycle history: a mix of performance, captivating design, and durability!

This german brand, BMW, “Bayerische Motoren Werke” which translated literally means “Bavarian Motor Company” was established in 1917. Their first engine was 500cc and in 1923 they started the production of the first BMW Motorcycle.

Their first model was the R32. The incredible success of this model pushed BMW to widen their production and create more sporty and innovative models.

Due to the ’29 crisis the company sales drastically dropped, so BMW decided to orient their efforts to the automobile market.

The company is stuck in this situation until the end of the Second World War: during the second half of the 50’s the company entirely renovates its model line, starts a production line overseas with models specifically produced for the United States.

During the 70’s the motorcycle division gets detached from the main company: that’s when BMW Motorrad Gmbh is establish. From then on, the company starts the production of enduro models which, from there on, will make of BMW the leading company in that market.

From there on, BMW motorcycles have been constantly updated without losing any of their heritage or identity: today, each BMW motorcycle is safe, powerful, and capable of enhancing bikers experience during road trips.

R18 and R18 Classic

Among the BMW motorcycle models recently released on the market, BMW R18 and BMW R18 Classic stood up in terms of appeal and success.

The BMW R18 motorcycle model is fantastic: a superlative cruiser developed to be an iconic futuristic carrier of the company heritage. It is equipped with an air cooled 1802cc Big Boxer motor capable of 91hp at 4750rpm and 158Nm at 3000rpm. This incredible boxer engine is housed into a double-cradle frame that has a swingarm inspired to rigid framed BMW’s of the past.

What bikers enjoy the most about this BMW motorcycle model is the fact that its iconic tank and frame lines are perfectly mixed with a premium technology package:

  • ASC (Automatic Stability Control)
  • MSR
  • ABS
  • Three ride modes: Rock, Roll, Rain

Plus, for the bikers who want more, both R-18 models can be equipped with Reverse Assist and Hill Start Control.

The BMW R18 Classic has the same engine, frame, and tech content as the R18, plus:

  • 16” Front wheel
  • Windshield for a more comfortable ride
  • A set of additional L.E.D head lights
  • Heel/toe shifter

Details that definitely make a huge difference when on the road.
