Triumph®: origins
Established in Coventry in 1884 by Siegfried Bettmann, Triumph® is one of the oldest motorcycle company in the world. The brand was specialized in bicycles but, with the first engines becoming popular, the company started experimenting to motorize their products. In 1902 the company starts the motorcycle production.
Over the years Triumph® grew to become one of the most famous motorcycle brands in the world. In the ‘50s the brand success is surely boosted by its appearances in cult movies like “The Wild One” with Marlon Brando and “The Great Escape” with Steve
McQueen.
Cinema plays just a part in the brand notoriety in that era. In fact, in the same period, a Triumph® Thunderbird equipped with a modified 650cc engine sets the 193-mph speed record at Bonneville lake.
In 1959 the company launched the iconic T120 Bonneville 650, with a name inspired by the place where Tiumph® set various land speed records on two wheels. This had an incredible impact on the brand success, also creating an enthusiasm for merchandising, accessories and saddlebags for Triumph®.
