Harley-Davidson LiveWire: the One and the all-new S2 Del Mar

It feels like Harley-Davidson LiveWire was launched only yesterday. However, it’s been 2 years since the Milwaukee based company once again showed the world to have a pioneering mind and to be absolutely not afraid of making important choices for the future of motorcycling: the research of innovative solutions to develop a bright future for electric motorcycles.

What once was Harley-Davison LiveWire, today is the name of a company (Harley-Davidson owns 74%, Kymco the 4,3%, ABIC own 17,3%) and the motorcycle is now called “One” (definitely an homage to the Harley-Davidson Model 1). This move makes LiveWire totally independent and puts it in the right position to create new models and develop new technologies for the EV segment.

The very first model released after going independent was, in fact, the One. At the moment it can be ordered on LiveWire website and has a price tag that is lower compared to the original Harley-Davidson LiveWire. Definitely an incentive to give it a thought if you thought it was cool but that the price was bonkers. Everything is exactly as in the original model: power & torque, frame, and range are exactly the same. This model now sports the “LiveWire” logo on the tank and comes in two colors: black, and white.

The icing on the cake, though, is the new LiveWire model unveiled a couple of days ago. Let’s discover it together.

Let’s discover the Harley-Davidson LiveWire S2 Del Mar

We cannot talk about the all-new Harley-Davidson LiveWire S2 Del Mar without talking about the Arrow platform that will also be the core of all future LiveWire models. Everything that is possible to see around nowadays has the battery pack and the engine inside a frame but at LiveWire they felt the need to adopt a solution that is working wonders for sport motorcycles: the powertrain makes up much of the chassis structure.

In particular, on the Harley-Davidson LiveWire S2 Del Mar, the motor, the battery pack and its aluminum structure work as a frame to which are secured:

  • Front controls on the front
  • Swingarm, suspension and seat frame on the back

Does this solution remind you of something? It should. It looks like the EDT 600R Flat Tracker prototype Harley-Davidson unveiled in 2020.

Let’s get back on topic, this solution allows LiveWire S2 Del Mar to not only have a slim, slick look that should appeal a younger audience but also keep a lightweight, which is essential to take full advantage of the 80hp produced by engine and provide 100 miles of city range.

About that, the charger on this baby only supports level 1 and level 2 charges… fast charge is not supporter at all. This, plus the 100 miles of city range did not discouraged buyers: the Harley-Davidson LiveWire S2 Del Mar sold-out in just 18 minutes.

Pretty crazy uh? I do not know about you but, I cannot wait to test ride one of these puppies,  I am excited about what’s to come.
