The BMW CE 02 is the final version of the CE concept the German brand presented back in 2021. Do you remember it?  Well, here’s the final version!

Whats it is

We would say that is an electric scooter with fat tyres. Which would be an awesome description for it, but BMW marketing team is not a e-scooter, nor an e-bike, it is an “eParkourer, created for the urban environment”… All right, we might not be on the same page for its category, but we all agree that this thing is less polished than Germany’s previous robotic scooter designs (a good reference would be the CE 04), with a bit of a rugged vibe as well as a lower price tag.

BMW CE 02 Specs

A steel double-loop frame holds an air-cooled, current excited synchronous motor, with energy derived from two air-cooled lithium-ion batteries. Those cells, which have an operating voltage of 48V and an energy content of 1.96kWh each, are removable. The manufacturer did not provide any specifications about their lifespan, but since they are removable, we assume it would be easy to change That being said, according to BMW, the eParkourer is good for a range of more than 56 miles.

In the suspensions departmente we can find a 37mm inverted telescopic fork, while a single-sided aluminum swingarm connected to a direct-link shock with adjustable spring preload brings up the rear.

Thanks to a low weight of only 291 pounds and a seat height of just 29.5 inches, the BMW CE 02 is likely to feel fairly nimble on the road as well.
With a – claimed – output of 15 hp (8 hp nominally) and 40.5 lb.-ft. of torque the new CE 02 is likely to reach its claimed top speed of 59 mph pretty quickly.

BMW CE 02 Tech

Automatic Stability Control and Recuperative Stability Control come standard on the BMW CE 02, plus, this eParkourer rocks 2 – plus one optional- riding modes: Flow, Surf, and the optional Flash. Flow will offer a softer throttle response and medium energy recuperation, while Surf will give riders a more direct throttle resposnse with snappier acceleration. The Flash mode, which is only available with the optional Highline package, is suppose to provide full power. Slowing things down on the CE 02 are single disc brakes at the front and rear, which are supported by BMW Motorrad ABS at the front wheel. Other convenience and safety features include keyless operation, LED lighting, headlights, a 3.5-inch TFT display, and a USB-C socket.

BMW CE 02 Optionals

Naturally there are optional accessories for the BMW CE 02 : there are Black, Urban, and Adventure collection 16-liter side cases; Black, Urban, and Adventure collection 35–42-liter side cases; and Black, Urban, and Adventure collection 50–60-liter side cases. Or opt for just a Light top case, which will give you an additional 29 liters of storage. Luggage carriers and anti-theft alarms are also available. I assume they thought luggage could be a good option  for those who will use to go to work or for fast grocery shop stops.

The optional Highline package adds anodized gold fork as well as the aforementioned Flash mode, a 1.5kWh quick charger, heated grips, a different seat, and more color and graphics along with other features.

Our thoughts

To what Edgar Heinrich – head of BMW Motorrad design –  says  “Thanks to its unusual proportions and striking graphics, the new CE 02 is an uncomplicated, youthful form of single-track mobility. The reduced design language stands for lightness and fun. The focus is not on utility, but on emotional appeal, riding pleasure and uncomplicated, almost intuitive use,” I will add that it basically is a modern variant to what two stroke scooters where to us back in the days. No more, not less. Price tag, of course, will be very modern too.
